Owensboro is located in western Kentucky and the locals will tell you that there are more restaurants per capita in Owensboro than in any other place in Kentucky. I didn’t check that fact to insure its accuracy, but I did check out the

 Moonlite Bar-B-Q Inn
2840 West Parrish Avenue
Owensboro, KY 42301
(270) 684-8143

One thing that is accurate is that this local diner is a favorite for both locals and those passing through the area.   What draws people to this place is the great selection of meats on the buffet.  BBQ Chicken, beef, pork, ribs, catfish (on select nights) and lots of mutton are all complimented by an assortment of sides which includes baked beans, hash brown casserole, sweet corn, and yes, there is a complete soup and salad bar as well.  If you haven’t tried mutton before, Owensboro is the place to go as you won’t find many local restaurants that don’t server it in one form or another.

While it’s not the best buffet or even the best bbq, it is good local food and its homey atmosphere and selections make it worth the stop if you are in the area.

Roger’s tip:   Try the Moonlite-Bar-B-Q Very Hot sauce and then buy a bottle to take home.
