Orlando — Although the Simpson’s Ride is not officially scheduled to open until mid-May, the ride did “soft open” today to allow guests like myself to enjoy the attraction and then to go back to their computers and write great things about it.

The Simpson’s Ride is housed in the building that use to house the “Back to the Future: The Ride” attraction.  Sadly, that attraction closed in March of last year.

I entered the attraction walking on the tongue and through the mouth of a giant Krusty head.   Although it’s still early, the queues seemed to move fairly quickly and it only took about 20 minutes to enter the first pre-show queue.   This pre-show area is very nicely done and you will feel as though you are in the middle of a carnival mid-way with  hawkers trying to get you to play a game and an information booth in which the attendant has no idea where the restrooms are.  This area is very entertaining with the only draw-back being that guests will not be able to see all the booths due to the layout of the pre-show area.

The first pre-show lasts about 10 minutes and then you are escorted to a very small “tent” that is about one third the size of most Orlando area hotel rooms (read very small).  This pre-show area is really designed to give you the basic “safety instructions” before boarding the ride vehicle.

The ride vehicle looks a lot like a roller coaster vehicle — and with good reason as this simulator ride (an improvement to the Back to the Future Ride) starts on a roller coaster and only gets more crazy from there.

I don’t want to spoil this ride as you can probably get that elsewhere, but you’ll get the full 3D effects that you are accustom to in Orlando area theme parks to include the sense of smell.   One word of warning, this ride is very easy to get motion sick on.   I’m either getting older or more sensitive to that, but either way, I had to look away a few times to keep from feeling dizzy.

Roger’s Tip:  Looking to save a few bucks?   Look online before your trip for great discount prices.   If you can’t find a place, you might try Billy Boys Discount Tickets as we’ve had great service using them on multiple occasions.
