One of the draws of dining in downtown Jacksonville, Florida is the river and while there are a few dining establishments located on or near the river, one that I can recommend is:

The dinner menu is varied to include seafood (Jumbo Sea Scallops), steak (Filet Mignon), and chicken. On my visit, the special was grouper which was accompanied by mashed potatoes and asparagus and then served with a heaping portion of lumped blue crab reduction over the top of the grouper.   While the grouper with crab reduction was good and satisfying, the mashed potatoes and asparagus were disappointing.

One outstanding dish that you should ask your server about is the oyster fennel soup.   Even if you don’t like oyster soup, you should give this a try as it left me wanting seconds and while the overall experience was very positive, this is the one dish that will bring me back.

Roger’s Tip:    Plan to have dinner prior to dusk and then stay as the lights go down in the city and the surrounding buildings light up.

While I usually look for one of a kind restaurants to recommend, this week I thought I’d write about some common places to eat that may or may not be all that common to where you live.

If you are not from the South or the South/East, but once lived there but now live in some other part of the country, then Daytona Beach may be the place to get your “fix” for some restaurants that you may be familiar with, but don’t exist where you live.

While those of you who live in the area may think it is funny mentioning these dining places, just know that in some parts of the country these restaurants either haven’t expanded to that part of the country, or have pulled up stakes and no longer exist.
